Child Contact Centre

Frequently Asked Questions

When are the Child Contact Centres Open?

The Centres are open on the first and third Saturday of each month from 9:30am to 1:30pm.  Families will usually be allocated a one or two hour slot within this period as requested.

At busy times we do often have to operate a waiting list, so in order to ensure that the maximum number of families can use the Centre we only offer fortnightly contact.

Places at the Centre are usually available for a maximum of six months.  After three months your contact will be reviewed and we will encourage you to think of ways in which the contact can move on.  All cases are considered on an individual basis.

All contact arrangements MUST be made through the co-ordinator.

Do parents have to meet?

No, not if they don’t want to!  If parents prefer not to meet, the referrer should note this on the referral form or the parents can tell us directly at their initial individual visit and we will ensure that this is recorded on the register.

If the situation changes during the time you are attending for contact, either tell one of the volunteers or call the co-ordinator and we will alter things accordingly.

Is there a charge to use the Child Contact Centre?

We charge a £20 referral fee which covers administration and pre-visits; then we charge an initial block of 10 sessions at £60 (£6 per session) (we do ask for a donation of £1 from each parent at the session). From then, if the families require more sessions, we offer 5 blocks at £30.

Can the children be taken out of the Child Contact Centre?

Yes, assuming that your ex-partner has agreed to this.  Some families just use the Centre as a ‘handover point’ only.

Arrangements are made via the co-ordinator.  We will need written confirmation from the resident parent.

What if I am unable to attend?

You must contact us as soon as possible – ring or message the co-ordinator on 07563 727 033.

If it is on the Saturday you can leave a message on this number  but the phone won’t be answered until the centre opens at 9:30am.

It is important that you give us as much notice as possible so that we can contact the other parent if you are not able to do this, and also offer the place to someone else
